SIPRI, which is part of ATT, received funding from the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to produce a comprehensive database which would map Arms Trade Treaty cooperation and activities in sub-Saharan Africa. The project was carried out in cooperation with the UN Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament (UNREC).
The Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) is an international legal agreement developed to establish standards to regulate the trade of conventional arms and prevent illicit transfers. The on-line database is an important tool designed to help and inform policy makers, government agencies and arms related NGO’s. The aim of the project is to map the treaty’s activities on a global scale.
The project required an online interface with a clean modern look, an original logo, and new brand guidelines. We developed specific icons for each type of activity accompanied by text explanations.
An important part of the project was the development of an interactive map with customised filters to provide the user with an intelligent and easy journey to discover arms trade activities in specific regions. The overall design was highly responsive as well as being multi-lingual.
The on-line database design was developed within three weeks and the project was completed and delivered within a six-week timeframe. We continue our relationship with Sipri to support and maintain their website and to create new solutions for their overall goal of communicating Treaty activities and implementation.
